CENTRE Leasing & Management, a Leeds based property agency, is offsetting greenhouse gas emissions from every mile of road, rail and air travel, for 2007. This offsetting is offered at absolutely no extra cost to their clients.
Through Correct Carbon’s approved offsetting scheme, emissions from essential travel are ‘balanced’ by payments to projects dedicated to reducing global warming. As well as cutting greenhouse gases, the projects help to improve people’s standards of living and protect wildlife habitats.
CENTRE Leasing’s offsetting contributions have gone towards projects in Panama and Nepal that promote renewable energy, and replanting tropical rainforest.
Alicia Jeffrey, Director said, ‘We rely on a fleet of small engine diesel cars, for our viewings and prompt response to maintenance issues. As well as Yorkshire, we are also based in the South of France, so during the course of a year we have to fly a lot to manage our clients’ properties.
In addition to offsetting, we continue to look for ways to minimise energy consumption and our impact on the environment. 100% of the electricity supply to our office is generated from wind power (via Ecotricity) creating zero grams of CO2.'
Correct Carbon has also helped implement the following changes: –
Electricity use is monitored automatically to make direct savings.
There is a rolling programme across their residential properties to upgrade insulation and heating equipment, to reduce emissions, and save energy.
The company’s stationery is printed on recycled paper and all of the copier paper is recycled stock. Around the office there are scrap paper boxes, and staff are encouraged to reuse paper whenever possible. All used paper is shredded and sent to a recycling facility.
‘Our travel and our energy consumption are the largest part of our business’s carbon footprint. Now we can tell our clients and tenants that our service has minimal effects on the environment.
We have definitely attracted more business through being Carbon Neutral – especially in the high-end relocation sector.’
